Abstract

1420278 Centrifugal fans GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 20 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 39294/73 Heading F1C [Also in Division A4] A motor fan device particularly for use in a suction cleaner comprises a housing 10 divided by a baffle plate 62 into two compartments, a motor M in one compartment driving two fan assemblies in the other, one fan assembly having an impeller 30 adjacent the baffle 62 providing a motor cooling air-flow, and the other, comprising e.g. two impellers 34 and 36 providing a working air-flow the axial component of which is oppisite that of the motor cooling air, the baffle 62 having an aperture 62A adjacent the inlet of the impeller 30 and dimensioned so as to produce in a common discharge zone 63 for the two fan assemblies a higher velocity for the air-flow due to the motor cooling fan assembly than that due to the other fan assembly whereby to aid in keeping the respective air-flows effectively isolated, and a common exhaust outlet 58B for the two air-flows. Louvres (57), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) are provided in the outlet 58B.
