Abstract

1419659 Imaging lithographic plates electrophotographically RICOH K K 26 Jan 1973 [8 Feb 1972] 4022/73 Headings G2C and G2H A photo-conductive lithographic plate blank is charged, exposed and developed with a liquid developer, then subjected to a corona discharge and etched, adhesion of the etching liquid to image areas not charged by the corona discharge being prevented by incorporation or coating of a surface-modifying agent in or on a photoconductive material which would otherwise be wetted by the etching liquid. The surfacemodifying agent may be mixed with the photoconductive material or may be applied to the surface of a formed photo-conductive layer. Suitable surface-modifying agents are silicone oils, paraffin, linseed oil, mineral oil, dialkylnaphthalenes and monoalkyldiphenyls. Preferably the blank consists of a support such as paper which has been made electrically conductive by coating one side of the paper with a layer containing a conductive polymer and clay and then coated on the other side with a layer of casein, epoxy resin, styrene/butadiene copolymer and clay and overcoated with a layer of ZnO, acrylic resin, silicone resin and silicone oil.
