1419614 Doctors JAMES ROSS Ltd 10 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 52271/71 Heading D2A A doctor blade holder comprises spaced; parallel fingers B each having a hub 13 by which the finger is pivotally mounted on a rod 11, a tongue 14 having a surface 15 for receiving pressure from an inflatable tube 19, and jaws 16, 18 providing a slot 25 for receviing a doctor blade C, and a pressure plate 35 permanently secured to all of the jaws 16. The doctor blade C services a creping cylinder D forming part of a Yankee Dryer apparatus, or it may be used to remove food products in powder form from a drying cylinder. The fingers are pivotally mounted on a support A which in turn is pivoted on a machine frame. The jaw 16 of each finger is stepped at 37b to form a groove 25a for slidably receiving a blade seat 27. A pressure pad 40 backing the pressure plate 35 is attached to each finger B. The blade seat 27 has a groove in which are mounted rectangular members 27e providing an abutment for the rear edge of the doctor blade C. The blade seat is preferably made of a thermally stable sheet material, for example an asbestos matte filler impregnated with a thermosetting, preferably phenolic, resin binder. A plurality of different blade seats may be provided for alternative use with blades of different widths or with worn blades. The blade seat may be inverted for similar purposes. New blades or blade seats are slid into the holder in the longitudinal direction whereby the holder is cleaned of debris. A flexible apron F of neoprene, for example, is attached by clips 63 to the fingers and provides a guide for the creped sheet. The tube 19 may be a neoprene-lined polyester jacketted non-expandable tube or a woven Terylene (Trade Mark) reinforced silicon rubber tube. Each end of the tube may be fitted over a trapezium-shaped spigot of an adaptor E, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), through which air may 'be passed to the tube, the spigot having grooves into which the inner surface of the tube is forced by securing clamps. Only one end of the tube may have an adaptor, the other end being clamped to seal it and secure it. Various parts of the holder are made from or plated with stainless steel. Other embodiments are described with reference to Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), the main difference being the crosssectional shape of the blade seat 27.
