1417864 Anti-hypertensive compositions SANDOZ Ltd 8 Dec 1972 [10 Dec 1971] 56661/72 Heading A5B An antihypertensive composition comprises as active agent a) an adrenergic #-blocking agent which is a compound of formula I wherein R is 4-indolyl; 4-(1-methylindolyl); 4- (3-methylindolyl); 4-(2-A-3-B-indolyl), wherein A is methyl, hydroxymethyl, carboxyl, carbalkoxy of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, carbamoyl, N-alkyl (of 1 to 4 carbon atoms) carbamoyl, N, N-dialkyl (of 1 to 4 carbon atoms) carbamoyl, carbazoyl or 3-alkyl (of 1 to 4 carbon atoms) carbazoyl, and B is hydrogen or methyl; 4-oxindolyl; 9-fluorenon-4-yl; 1-naphthyl; o-allylphenyl; o-allyloxyphenyl; m-tolyl; o-methylmercaptophenyl; o-phenoxyphenyl; pacetylaminophenyl; 4-acetoxy-3, 5, 6-trimethylphenyl; 4-indanyl; 5-(1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro)- 1-oxonaphthyl; or 2-chloro-5-methylphenyl, and R 1 is alkyl of 3 or 4 carbon atoms branched on the α carbon atom, and/or an ester thereof with an aliphatic carboxylic acid of 1 to 5 carbon atoms, other than 4-(2-hydroxy-3-isopropylaminopropoxy) indole, and b) clopamide. The compound of formula I may be selected from 4-(3-tert-butylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy) indole, 4-(2-hydroxy-3-isopropylaminopropoxy)-2-methylindole, 4-(tert-butylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy) - 2 - methylindole, 4-(3-isopropylamino - 2 - pivaloyloxypropoxy) indole, 4-(3-isopropylamino-2-pivaloyloxypropoxy)-2-methylindole, 4-(3-tert-butylamino -2- pivaloyloxypropoxy) - 2 - methylindole, 4-(3- tert-butylamino- 2 - pivaloyloxypropoxy) indole, 4-(2-hydroxy-3-isopropylaminopropoxy) oxindole, 4-(3-tert-butylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy) oxindole, 4-(3-isopropylamino-2-pivaloyloxypropoxy) oxindole, 4-(3-tert-butylamino-2- pivaloyloxypropoxy) oxindole, 4-(3-tert-butylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy)- 3 - fluorenone, 4- (2-hydroxy-3-isopropylaminopropoxy) - 9 - fluorenone, 4-(3-tert - butylamino-2-pivaloyloxy - propoxy)-9-fluorenone, 4-(3-isopropylamino-2- pivaloyloxypropoxy) - 9 - fluorenone, 1-isopropylamino-3-(1-naphthyloxy)- 2 - propanol, 1-(o-allylphenoxy) - 3 - isopropylamino-2-propanol, 1-(o-allyloxyphenoxy)-3-isopropylamino- 2 - propanol, 1-isopropylamino-3-(m-toloxy)-2- propanol, 5-(3-tert-butylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy)-3, 4-dihydro-1(2H)-naphthalenone, 1-(omethylmercaptophenoxy) - 3 - isopropylamino-2-propanol, 1-tert-butylamino-3-(2-chloro- 3-methylphenoxy)-2-propanol, 1-(isopropylamino)-3-(o - phenoxyphenoxy)-2-propanol, 4-(2- hydroxy-3-isopropylaminopropoxy) acetanilide, and 1-(3, 5, 6-trimethyl-4-acetoxyphenoxy)-3- isopropylamino-2-propanol.
