Abstract

1417592 Lubricating gearing CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 22 March 1973 [27 March 1972] 18267/75 Divided out of 1417591 Heading F2Q Drive transmission apparatus comprises a gear drive mechanism 17, 30 completely enclosed in an annular chamber 38, for containing lubricant, with baffle plates 48 circumferentially disposed so as to maintain a substantially uniform distribution of lubricant when the apparatus is tripped away from a normal operating position in which the central axis of the enclosure is vertical. The gear drive may be the slewing mechanism of an earth working machine and comprise ring gear 17, fixed to bearing support ring 16, driven by pinion 30. The chamber 38 is formed by upper wall 32 fixed to mounting ring 14, lower wall 34 fixed to the support ring 16, sidewall 38 integral with the lower wall, and by the ring gear 17, and the baffles 48 are located in an annular trough 41 within the chamber 38 and with circumferentially distributed ports 50.
