Abstract
141,741. Dewandre, A., and Laminne, J. de. June 15, 1916, [Convention date]. Projectiles; fuses.-Relates to grenades of the kind in which the fuse is ignited by a striker in an axial tube and the detonator is situated in a tube adjacent the striker tube, both tubes opening into a disk screwed into the bottom of the grenade body. According to the invention, the striker tube is internally ribbed for guiding the striker and. venting the gases generated by the ignition. As shown, a fuse cord p connected to a detonator q and to a percussion-cap holder h is inserted into the grenade through a bottom aperture a' closed by a screw-plug a<2>. The tip of the fuse cord is coated with inflammable, paste r, as described in Specification 141,744, and the percussion-cap o is held by elastic limbs h<1> on the holder h, as described in Specification 141,743. The percussion cap is fired by a spring striker i which is guided within a tube e by ribs e', the spring taking its abutment on a washer l making a tight fit with the striker. The tube e enclosing the striker and the tube f enclosing the detonator q end in a disk g containing the fuse cord p and screwed into the bottom aperture a<1>. These parts and the grenade body a are made of cast iron, the grenade body having internal weakening grooves d. The striker i is held cocked bv a resilient external lever m locked by a safety pin n provided with a ring normally forcibly engaged by lugs a<5> on the grenade body. The lever, in the locked position, bears with its outer end on the grenade body, and by its resiliency presses outwardly on the safety pin, thus prevent accidental unlocking, as described in Specification 141,742. When the striker is released and thrust by its spring against the percussion cap, the gases from the fuse escape easily past the ribs e' around the striker and out by the hole a<3> now no longer closed by the striker.
