Abstract

1417109 Crash barriers ROAD RESEARCH LTD 20 Oct 1972 [20 Oct 1971] 48798/71 Heading E1G [Also in Division F2] An inclined crash barrier post 1 which is suitable for a bridge parapet railing has a mounting 4 for a fixed upper rail 2 and a mounting 6 for a yieldable lower rail 5, the mounting 6 being on one end of a rubber or hydraulic shock absorber 8-9 whose other end is secured to the post between its ends whereby the lower yieldable rail 5 is nearer to the road axis than the upper fixed rail. A fixed lowermost rail 25 may be provided. The post may have a weakened point 32. The rail lengths may be interconnected by lost motion sliding and pivotal connections, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). Two forms of hydraulic shock absorber, Figs. 5, 11 (not shown) are described.
