Abstract
141,637. Gerbaud, C. E. Nov. 22, 1919. Pressing; moulding sparking-plug insulators.- Relates to the manufacture, of glass-insuiated sparking-plugs. The electrode d and metal shell b, Fig. 3, are placed in a two-part hinged mould a provided with a movable bottom c having a socket s for the electrcde d. Molten glass, preferably boro-silicate of sodium, is poured into an off-set pouring gate e and forced through a narrow passage e<1> into the main cavity f by a plunger g. In a modification, the mould halves a, Fig. 7, enclose two movable rings m, p, against the upper of which the metal shell b is pressed by a screw n, which is bored to receive the electrode d. In this case, the mould a can be opened and the shell b removed by means of the rings m, p before the glass has set. The mould a can then be used at once with two fresh rings m, p. The metal parts d, b are heated before being placed in the mould. In the case of spark-gap electrodes, the two parts d<1>, d<2>, Fig. 6, are held together by an insulating-sleeve h.
