Abstract
1416146 Distilling hydrocarbons METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 2 Nov 1972 [13 Nov 1971] 50629/72 Heading C5E In a process for separating C 8 aromatics from hydrocarbon mixtures by extractive distillation, the evaporation ratio V (ratio of heat supplied to the sump of the distillation column to that required to evaporate the C 8 aromatics recovered) and solvent ratio L (ratio of solvent supplied to the extractive distillation column to the C 8 aromatics recovered) are related by the equation where A lies between 0À25 and 3À75. This equation is derived from equations relating V and L to the purity of the product Z (parts per million of non-aromatics). and where Y lies between 6 and 10 and X between 4 and 6. The hydrocarbons to be covered may be any of the three xylenes or ethylbenzene, the solvent may be N-methylpyrrolidone, butyrolactone, dimethyl sulphoxide, diethylene glycol monomethyl ether, diethylene tri-amine, tetrahydrothiophene dioxide or propylene carbonate, and the hydrocarbon feed may be a distillation fraction of a reformate.
