Abstract

1415793 Cathode and hanger bar assemblies IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 9 Jan 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 4132/73 Heading C7B A cathode and hanger bar assembly for use in an electrolytic cell, e.g. for electro-winning or for electro-refining using a consumable anode, comprises a hanger bar 11 of aluminium or copper at least partially sheathed in valve metal, i.e. Ti, Nb, Zr, Ta, Hf or an alloy thereof, and a continuous sheet 12 of valve metal welded adjacent one edge thereof to the valve metal sheath of the hanger bar. The edge of the sheet 12 may form staggered legs 13, 14, 15 as shown and welding may consist of spot welds 18. Electrical connection may be made to unsheathed ends of the hanger bar.
