Abstract

1460089 Cathode assembly for electrolysis IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 31 Oct 1975 [8 Nov 1974 10 June 1975] 48421/74 Heading C7B The assembly, which is useful in Cu electrowinning, comprises a hanger bar of a film forming metal (Ti, Ta, Hf, Nb, Zr or an alloy thereof) metallurgically bonded to a cladding of Cu or Al, the core being exposed at least intermittently along the length of the bar, and a continuous sheet of film-forming metal being welded, directly or indirectly, to the exposed core. The bar may be made by extrusion of a Cu or Al clad core, followed by cold drawing. The exposed portion may comprise a line of holes, a continuous groove or a flat exposed surface obtained by cutting a coextruded bar. The welds when indirect may be effected via discrete or continuous intermediate blocks of film-forming metal. The sheet may depend directly from the hanger, or have cranked portions which overlie the exposed core. The hanger is suitable for grooved and other busbars.
