1415281 Fuel filter units FLIGHT REFUELING LTD 31 Aug 1972 [4 June 1971] 19022/71 Heading B1D [Also in Division G1] A fuel filter unit 10 is adapted to be secured to any number of similar units as required and to operate in parallel therewith. It comprises a cylindrical housing 13 with a lower fixed end cap 12 and upper removable end cap 14, the end caps being generally square and having respective open ended channels 18, 19, 21 and 40, 41 therein. These channels align with and communicate with the channels in an adjacent unit behind the first from the point of view of Fig. I (as in Figs. 2, 5 not shown). Channel 18 opens into chamber 15 and delivers fuel to the interiors of three filter-coalescer elements 25 secured to apertures 17. Filtered fuel passes through elements 25, outwards through enclosing screen 29 and thence through outlet 38 to channel 40. Coalesced water is drained off through aperture 22 to channel 21, which also communicates by passage 23 with channel 21 in a laterally adjacent unit. Channels 19 and 41 do not communicate with the interior of their own unit but serve to deliver or remove fuel to and from the channels 18, 40 of any units behind or in front which are arranged the opposite way round from the first unit. Separate external manifolds (not shown) connect the various channels serving as inlets and outlets at the front and rear ends of a block of units to a common inlet and common outlet for fuel. Channels 21 are similarly commoned to a water outlet. Fig. 8 (not shown) illustrates various arrangements of units. Each unit has an external pointer 47 which is magnetically coupled to an internal float to indicate the internal water level. End caps 14 are held in place by pins (36) driven through holes 37 in rods 34 extending up from end caps 12 outside the housings 13. The tops of elements 25 in one unit are bolted to a plate 28. Screen 29 stops short of the lower end of elements 25.
