Abstract

1323498 Filter apparatus ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 14 Sept 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 42843/71 Heading B1D A filter apparatus for removing water and solid particles from liquid fuel comprises a cylindrical housing 15 having closure elements 20, 21 at either end these elements having axial openings 24, 25 respectively and other openings 22, 23 respectively therein. A conical baffle 26 is fixed to closure element 20 and divides the housing interior into two compartments 29, 30 connected by an annular channel 28. The conical baffle carries a concave-convex screen 31 at its lower end which extends into chamber 30. Connector 10 is screwed into the axial hole in closure member 20, to provide an inlet 12 for fuel entering the housing and an outlet 13 for filtered fuel. Connector 34 is screwed into the axial hole in closure element 21 and provides communication with a glass walled chamber 35 and a sealable lower outlet 38. Fuel enters at 12 into an annular chamber 17 formed in the connector 10, passes down through holes 22 into compartment 29 and then into compartment 30 via passage 28. Water and solid particles sink into glass walled compartment 35 from where they are periodically drained via 37 and 38. Fuel rises through screen 31 and leaves through outlet 13. Air bubbles are prevented from passing through screen 31 by the fine mesh size chosen and move up the surface of the screen, then chamber 29 into annular chamber 17 from where they pass via vent 18 to the outlet 13. The screen prevents solid particles from reaching the outlet.
