Abstract

1415186 Spraying with ferrous alloys NIPPON PISTON RING CO LTD 4 Dec 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 55958/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C7] A substrate, e.g. a piston ring or cylinder liner, is plasma or flame sprayed with a ferrous alloy containing 2 to 53.5% of sulphur. The alloy may also contain W, Mo, NC-Cr, Ni- A1. In examples, the spraying powder may contain 0.2% C, 0.4% Si, 0.5% Mn, 10% S, balance Fe or 90% FeS, 10% W. The layer formed is porous and oil retaining.
