Abstract

1415112 Splicing webs AGFA-GEVAERT AG 3 Oct 1973 [4 Oct 1972] 46159/73 Heading B8R A machine for splicing a replacement web 9 to an expiring web 8 comprises a work-table 4 over which is disposed a pair of vertically displaceable gripper bars 10, 11 between which is located a cutting unit 5 arranged for displacement transversely of the travel of the web 8 and a splicing bar 6 arranged for vertical displacement, the machine further comprising a threading bar 15 to which is fixed the leading end of the web 9 and which is connected to an endless chain 17 guided in the vertical plane and externally around the machine by pairs of sprocket wheels 18. In operation when the web 8 expires the leading edge of the web 9 guided over roller 22 supported by movable endless chains 21 is attached to the bar 15 which is moved over the table 4 and the gripper bars 10, 11, including an auxiliary gripper bar 13 are lowered to grip the leading and trailing ends of webs 8, 9, whereupon the webs are cut by the cutter 5 and a bonding strip (35, Fig. 3a) which is placed over the cut is bonded by the splicing bar 6. The bar 15 is then returned by the chains 17 to its initial position.
