Abstract

1415012 Blowing glass EMHART (UK) Ltd 7 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 29561/72 Heading C1M [Also in Division F2] A valve block for an IS glassware forming machine has a plurality of valve combinations arranged in two rows each combination comprising a solenoid-operated pilot valve 4 and a three-way main valve 3, a pilot line 36 being common to all the pilot valves and an exhaust or supply chamber 43 being common to all the main valves. As shown the pilot valve member 31 is biased by a spring 37 against the rubber seat 34 and is moved on energization of the solenoid coil 28 to close the vent passage 29 and communicate the pilot line 36 with an outlet passage 40. Pressure in passage 40 acts on the piston 24 formed at the end of the main valve member 12 to cause the supply passage 9 to be communicated with the outlet 10 and the outlet 10 to be cut-off from the exhaust passage 11 which communicates with the exhaust chamber 43. The block is formed of two castings 1, 2 which together define the chamber 43 and which may have supply chambers (55), (56) secured to opposite faces and feeding respective rows of main valves. The solenoid-operated pilot valves are operated by an electronic timing control unit and each have a manual override formed by a rotatable cylindrical barrel 47 having a semicylindrical extension 50 which moves the pilot valve member. The manual override may be replaced by a pneumatic override which is a three-way tap that normally connects bore 29 to atmosphere but which can be operated to connect it to pilot air pressure so as to operate the main valve 3.
