1414880 Stoppers with attached stirrer N A DE BRUYNE 8 July 1974 [6 Aug 1973 15 Jan 1974 3 June 1974] 37155/73 01886/74 and 24508/74 Heading B8T [Also in Division B1] The closure members of a variety of laboratory vessels, are adapted to carry a flexible diaphragm 3 to which is attached a stirring member 30 and means traversing the closure for applying fluctuating fluid pressure to the diaphragm so as to operate the stirrer (see Division B1). The closure may comprise a rubber stopper (Fig. 1, not shown) to which the diaphragm is cemented or a screw cap (Fig. 2 not shown) to which the diaphragm is clamped by a clamping disc tightened by a nut on a tubular screwed member passing through the cap. In the form shown in Fig. 4 a clip 37 disposed around the neck of a "Kontes" bottle 21 provides an anchor for a swing clip 41 which engages an adjustable circular disc 43 thereby pressing a cap assembly including diaphragm 3 into sealing engagement with the upper rim 24 of the bottle. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 8 and 10, the cap is designed to allow stacking of the bottles and comprises a plastics cap 48 with an elastomeric stopper 49 having an enlarged lower end adapted to fit under and seal against the shoulder of a bottle. An adaptor 54 is provided to carry the diaphragm/stirrer assembly and the pressure fluid connection is made by way of a lateral bore 59 and connector 60.
