1413702 Chalcogenide glass PLESSEY CO Ltd 21 March 1974 [11 June 1973] 27732/73 Heading C1M An inorganic glass consists of, in atomic per cent: A solid state light-emitting device comprises a planar solid state light emitting diode, and a member of the above glass having one surface contiguous with, and secured to, the said planar diode, the glass member having a substantially hemispherical shape which is such that the emitted light rays pass through the diode/glass interface and meet the glass/air interface at an angle of substantially 90 degrees so that internal reflections are minimized. The light-emitting diode may be of gallium arsenide (e.g. doped with Si or Zn) or gallium arsenide phosphide.
