Abstract

1413156 Mixing apparatus ESCHER WYSS GmbH 4 Dec 1972 [9 Dec 1971] 55955/72 Heading B1C A continuous apparatus for making a homogenous suspension of fibres (especially long synthetic fibres) in water comprises a chamber 1 having an inlet 6, an overflow outlet 7 on the opposite side, and gas agitation inlet apertures 9 in the bottom 5. As described the inlet and outlet 6, 7 are rectangular and stretch across the sides of the chamber, but the latter may be e.g. cylindrical. The weir edge 13 is rounded with a radius at least as great as the fibre length and the mean speed imparted to the material by the gas jets is greater than the mean throughput speed. A plurality of such apparatuses may be stacked to form a tower and connected in series.
