Abstract

1412696 #-Phenylethanol DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 17 April 1973 [24 April 1972] 18432/73 Heading C2C α-Phenylethanol is prepared by hydrogenating phenyl ethylene glycol in the presence of metallic palladium, which may be used on a support, e.g. activated carbon or SiO 2 -containing asbestos. The process is preferably effected at 20-150‹ C. and at a hydrogen partial pressure of 20 to 120 atm. gauge with the phenyl ethylene glycol in solution in an organic solvent.
