Abstract
1,140,434. Symmetrical tetrachloroacetone. WYANDOTTE CHEMICALS CORP. 11 April, 1967 [25 April, 1966], No. 16648/67. Heading C2C. Symmetrical tetrachloroacetone is prepared by hydrogenating pentachloroacetone or hexachloroacetone in the presence of a palladium catalyst. The catalyst comprises metallic palladium which may be carried on a suitable support material e.g. activated carbon, or an inorganic salt. The finished catalyst preferably contains from 0À5-10 weight per cent of palladium. It is preferred to use at least 1 mole of hydrogen per mole of penta- or hexachloroacetone, an excess of hydrogen usually being employed. Atmospheric pressure is preferably employed.
