Abstract

1412685 Collimators for particle beams CGR-MEV 12 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 11748/73 Heading H5R A collimator for an accelerated particle beam, e.g. electrons, comprises a first system partially intercepting the beam F and consisting of movable supports carrying paired elements M1, M2; M3, M4; m1, m2; m3, m4 (the last pair not shown) and a second system comprising metal strips in pairs t1, L1; l2' L2; l3, L3; l4, L4 (the last pair not shown) this second system being supported on members 1, 2, 3, (4) each of which is connected to a respective pair of elements in the first system. The function of the second system is to intercept diffused and secondary particles produced by the beam at the first system. Oppositely arranged elements are movable along circular paths centred on the source S to vary the cross-section of the beam. The elements L1 to L4 can consist of laminations of steel, lead and aluminium.
