Abstract

141,245. Guy, S. S. June 26, 1919. Force-feed lubricating.-Pipe lines laid around the chassis of a motor-vehicle to lubricate the various bearings and joints are supplied with oil by a pump operated by some moving part of the vehicle which is not in continuous use, such as the steering-mechanism. The pipe lines a are laid in the channel section of the frame members b and are connected to the bearings by flexible pipes d. The plunger l of a pump k is operated by a cam n on the drop arm m of the steering- gear at the limit of its movement in one direction. The pump draws its supply from the relief valve of the engine lubricating-system or from a separate tank. The overflow from the pump k is delivered to the crank case i by way of the steering-box p. The oil pressure is indicated by a gauge g, and excessive pressure in the pipes a is avoided by an escape pipe fitted' with a non- return valve. Amongst the parts lubricated are the bearings of the sub-frame e, the clutch shaft and central parts of the mechanism, the brakecompensating shaft, and the spring shackles v.
