Abstract

183,155. Guy, S. S. Jan. 18, 1921. Gravity and force feed lubricating for motor vehicles in which the chassis is provided with one or more valve-controlled pipe lines from which the working parts are automatically supplied with lubricant. The supply to the pipe lines a is controlled by a valve c arranged for automatic operation by some part of the vehicle which is preferably not too frequently used, for example the steering-mechanism which may be arranged to open the valve at or about full lock, a cam t on the boss of the steering drop arm r contacting with the end s of the valve piston. The oil is supplied to the valve from an elevated tank d, which is replenished by hand or from' the engine lubrication pump, or the valve may be connected directly to the engine crank case. Surplus oil from the pipe lines is delivered to the steering gear box and thence by a pipe k to the crank rase. The terminal ends of the branch pipes e may be closed by felt or wick pads to regulate the amount of lubricant taken up by the moving parts.
