Abstract

1412407 Treatment of slag ROBSON REFRACTORIES Ltd 6 Nov 1972 [6 Nov 1971] 51661/71 Heading C7M A composition for adding to slag in a ladle of tapped iron comprises 1-80% alkali metal carbonate, 1-70% dolomite, 1-80% crushed glass, 1-20% borax and 1-30% charcoal, the composition depending on the iron content and the melting point of the slag to be treated. Two examples (I and II) of suitable compositions are (by wt): I II Sodium carbonate (Anhydrous) 50% 35% Dolomite (Anhydrous) 10% 5% Crushed glass 25% 27% Sodium borate (Anhydrous) 10% 8% Charcoal 5% 25% The compositions may be added to the ladle prior to charging and/or after, or towards the end of, charging.
