Abstract

1462753 Desulphurization of iron ROBSON REFRACTORIES Ltd 25 Feb 1974 [23 Nov 1972] 54280/72 Headings C7D and C7M A composition for the desulphurization of molten iron comprises 65-85% dolomite and 5-20% alkali metal carbonate, together with at least two of the following:- 2-10% CaF 2 , 1-8% finely divided glass, 5-25% CaO, 2-15% C, 1-10% borax. Examples of suitable compositions are, by wt. per cent:- The composition may be added to molten Fe when tapped or in a ladle. In the latter case, N 2 or Ar may be introduced to the molten Fe, e.g. by a porous plug, to effect mixing.
