Abstract

1412289 Bottom pour valves for foundry vessels USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 15 Dec 1972 [17 Dec 1971] 58077/72 Heading F4B A bottom discharge nozzle 12 for a ladle or tundish is closed by a rotary valve 13. The valve 13 has a plurality of inserts 15 each having an opening 33. The inserts 15 are mounted in the tray 20 on flanges of T-shaped ribs 24 and are retained by spring loaded pins 28. In operation the valve 13 is rotated by an actuator 16 engaging in turn a series of pins 27 depending from the tray 20 thereby rotating the valve to either an opening position, i.e. opening 33 opposite nozzle 12, or a closed position, i.e. a solid part of insert 15 covering the nozzle. The inserts 15 are readily replaceable.
