Abstract
1411920 Valves COMPAGNIE EUROPEENNE D'ACCUMULATEURS 10 Sept 1973 [26 Sept 1972] 42504/73 Heading F2V [Also in Divisions F1 and G3] Carburation control apparatus for use in an internal combustion engine having a carburettor which receives fuel and a filtered combustion gas and supplies mixture to an inlet pipe of the engine, the apparatus comprising: a chamber having first and second inlets, 6 and 7, for heated and unheated combustion gas and an outlet 16 connected to the gas filter, a shutter 8 for selectively closing the inlets, a shutter actuating pressure device 11 having first and second compartments, 12 and 13 separated by a membrane 10; a control device 14 for controlling operation of the shutter via the pressure device, the control device comprising: a hollow body 20 divided by a partition 36 into first and second chambers, A and B, and the first chamber A being connected by pipe 17 to the engine inlet pipe 3 and the second chamber B being con- nected to compartment 13; first and second caps 23 and 22 which close the first and second chamber a third cap 23 secured around the first cap to define a third chamber 24 connected to the gas filter, a thermally responsive probe 18 mounted in cap 22 for contact with the combustion gas; first valve means 38 between chambers A and B, and second valve means 26 between chambers A and 24, so that, in use when the pressure difference between chambers A and B exceeds a predetermined value, or when the suction in the inlet pipe exceeds a predetermined value, the first valve 38 is open; when the temperature of the combustion gas is greater than a predetermined value, the probe causes the first valve 38 to be open, and when the temperature of the combustion gas is greater than a second predetermined value, which is greater than the first value, the probe causes the second valve 26 to be open. The probe includes a rod 32 which engages the base of valve 38 and opens it against the force of biasing spring 42. Continued movement of the rod as engine temperature increases raises valve 38 so that it engages valve 26 to admit untreated combustion gas to the engine even though the engine may be running slowly, e.g. in traffic, with a resulting high vacuum in the inlet pipe.
