Abstract
1411905 Planetary coolers for rotary kilns F L SMIDTH & CO AS 25 April 1974 [9 May 1973] 22097/73 Heading F4B In a rotary cement kiln with planetary cooling tubes one or more spray nozzles are arranged to introduce cooling water into the outlet ends of the tubes. As shown three water spray pipes 19 have valves 21 opened when a pipe is in alignment with a cooling tube 12 by cam followers 24 engaging recesses in cam rings encircling the kiln. The water supply is controlled by a main valve (25, Fig. 4) subject to the action of a thermocouple 26 in the clinker discharge hood 16, which may also control the amount of water supplied by electromagnetically operated valves (29, 30, 31 Fig. 5). In another system (Fig. 6) the cam control is dispensed with, the valves 21 being controlled electromagnetically from a photoelectric cell 33 in the hood 16. A modification (Figs. 7 and 8) has an open reservoir (35), water from which picked up by a scoop (39) rotating with the cooler is circulated through a ring pipe to individual pipes (44) in each cooling tube. Another modification (Figs. 9-13) has a water trough (45) surrounding and spaced from the cooler supplied with water from a pipe (47) with a flexible joint (48) to a supply line (49). A pipe (50) from the trough to each cooling tube terminates in a conical disdistribution baffle (51). A further modification (Figs. 14 and 15) has nozzles (56) movable through a slit 57 in the casing wall as the cooling tubes pass by. Permanent magnets (66) on the kiln wall activate indicators (67) and (70) associated with the cooler to open and close valves supplying the cooling water. Final modifications (Figs. 16 and 17) apply a similar system to devices supplying two and three cooling tubes with water at once.
