Abstract

1,142,119. Cooling cement clinker &c. F. L. SMIDTH & CO. A.S. 17 May, 1967, No. 22877/67. Heading F4B. In a rotary kiln 1 having a planetary arrangement of cooler tubes mounted parallel or substantially parallel to its axis, the inlet end of each tube 5 is connected to an outlet of the kiln by a supply shoot 6, the inlet of which is formed by a flanged sleeve 7 with a ceramic lining 8, the sleeve being inserted from the outside of the kiln. An intermediate sleeve 9 with a ceramic lining 10 is also provided. An expansion joint is provided between the sleeves 7 and 9 (circled, see also Fig. 2, not shown). The sleeve 7 is provided with slits 16 to allow for expansion, and is made conical so that it can be rotated or removed easily to allow for uneven wear. The ends of the linings are protected by annular steel rings 12 and the linings may be made of monolithic tubes or ceramic ring sections packed one on top of another.
