Abstract

1286925 Making joints F L SMIDTH & CO A/S 19 April 1971 9808/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] In a method of assembling a junction piece 4 in position between an outlet 23 from a rotary kiln and a planetary cooler tube 6 mounted on the kiln, a first shell section 5 of the junction piece having two open ends substantially perperndicular to one another is united to the cooler tube at a flange joint 21, 22, two telescopic elements of a second shell section 3 are assembled in their desired relative position in relation to the outlet 23, with or without first lining one of them, welded together and lined, or the lining completed, and the first and second shell sections 3 and 5 united at a further flange joint. The telescopic elements may be tack welded and lined before re-mounting in position. Asbestos packing (19) (Fig. 3, not shown) is placed around the free end of section 3 and retained by a two-part ring (20) and a two-part flange (24) on an outlet spigot 2. The lining may be monolithic blocks inserted in the elements.
