In a rotary cement kiln having cylindrical planetary cooler tubes 5 with trough-shaped helical conveyer flights 10 disposed between rings of scoops 11 and 12 as disclosed in Specification 1,137,246, dam rings 13, 14 and 15 are provided covering the cross-sectional area occupied by the conveyer flights to prevent a too rapid flow of material through the tube.
