Abstract
1411537 Electro-photographic developer AGFA-GEVAERT 6 July 1973 [12 July 1972] 7444/75 Divided out of 1411287 Heading G2H A positive or negative liquid developer comprises an electrically insulating carrier liquid having a volume resistivity of at least 10<SP>9</SP> Ohm.cm and a dielectric constant below 3, a pigment or colouring agent as toner suspended in the carrier liquid, and dissolved in the carrier liquid (1) a bivalent or trivalent metal salt of an oxyacid derived from phosphorus containing at least one organic residue and (2) a polyurethane. The polarity of the toner particles is controlled by varying the relative proportions of the ingredients (1) and (2). The metal salt may be any of those specified in Specification 1151141. In the example, carbon black is suspended in a carrier liquid comprising mixed aliphatic hydrocarbons in which is dissolved a butyl methacrylate/stearyl methacrylate copolymer as a protective colloid and as fixing agent and to which is added solutions of (1) the zinc salt of mono-2- butyloctyl phosphate and (2) a polyurethan alkyd resin prepared from dehydrated ricinus oil, soya bean oil and a polyisocyanate.
