Abstract

1411051 Regulating I C engine fuel supply ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 25 Jan 1973 [26 Jan 1972] 3831/73 Addition to 1395526 Heading F1B A fuel injection system for mixture compressing I.C. engines having continuous injection into the intake manifold and separate ignition as claimed in claim 1 of Specification 1395526 is modified in that the electromagnet of the pressure regulating valve consists of a permanent magnet with a moving coil armature. The air-flow into the induction pipe 1, 4, 5 of an engine displaces a measuring element 2, mounted on a pivoted arm 8, which causes sliding movement of a valve spool 11 of a metering valve 7. The spool movement is opposed by the pressure of fuel in a chamber 33, which encloses the end-face 12 of the spool. The pressure in the chamber 33 is controlled by a regulating valve 36, which is connected to the chamber by a passage 35. The regulating valve consists of a valve seat 40 which co-operates with a diaphragm 24 to control the flow of fuel from the passage 35 to a drain line 37. The diaphragm is biased towards the valve seat by a leaf-spring 46 which acts through an intermediate member 45. The leafspring also acts as a mounting for an armature 47 which carries a coil 48. The magnetic circuit associated with the armature consists of a soft iron ring 49, a ring-shaped permanent magnet 50 and a soft iron plate 51 having a core 52 which projects into the armature. When current flows in the coil 48, the armature tends to move in a direction to open the valve 40, 24 against the bias of the leaf-spring 46. The magnitude of the current flow in the coil is determined by an oxygen probe in the exhaust system of the engine. The electrical signal produced by the probe is compared with a reference voltage in a transistorized amplifier circuit and produces a current flow in the coil 48 which opens the valve 40, 24, reduces the pressure in the chamber 33 and enriches the mixture to stoichiometric, the measuring element 2 being adjusted to provide a basic lean mixture. As the driver controlled throttle valve (not shown) approaches the full throttle position an electrical switch is closed which increases the current flowing in the coil 48 to provide a rich mixture for full throttle operation of the engine.
