Abstract
1410615 Vehicle steps SOC NATIONALE DES CHEMINS DE FER FRANCAIS SOC GENERALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES ET MECHANIQUES ALSTHOM and FAIVELEY SA 14 Dec 1972 [15 Dec 1971] 57648/72 Headings B7L and B7B A step arrangement for a passenger-carrying vehicle such as a rail vehicle comprises stationary steps 11 and 12 and an additional retractable step formed by a plate 13 which is movable within its own plane to an extended operative position under the action of rotable crank means 16, 17, 25, 27 &c. which maintain the front edge of the plate 13 parallel to the front edge of step 12 throughout movement of the plate. The crank means include two cranks 25, 27 each of which is connected at one end to a shaft 20, 28 at the centre of a disc 16, 17 respectively, and connected at the other end to the plate 13. Shaft 20 is a drive shaft and carries a member 65, Fig. 8, in which is slidably received a locking means 63. Means 63 comprises a block 66 carrying a roller 67 which is biased by spring 68 into keying engagement with an aperture 71 in a cyclindrical easing 62. Casing 62 is rigidly fixed to a pinion 21 which engages a rack 22 driven by a double-acting jack 23 so as to move the plate 13 between its retracted and extended positions. Also provided is a retractable closure means 100 by which access to the steps 11 and 12 may be obstructed and closed completely in conjunction with a vehicle door 15. Means 100 comprises two hinged plate members 101 and 102, Fig. 13, the former of which is carried by an obliquely extending shaft 105 slidable on rollers 110 in a guide sleeve 106. Member 101 can be moved between the positions shown on Figs. 3 (extended) and 13 (retracted) by actuating means such as a double acting jack 112.
