Abstract
1410497 Rotary heat exchangers; heating and ventilating vehicles BETEILIGUNGS-AG FUR HAUSTECHNIK 5 Oct 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 45976/72 Headings F4S and F4V [Also in Division F1] In a vehicle heater/ventilator in the form of a rotary heat exchanger comprising a plurality of annular fins la transversed by tubes 14 each of which is subdivided by a partition into flow and return passages for hot water passing therethrough, the flow of water circulated through the heat exchanger is controlled by valve means comprising a valve ball 9 actuated by a control rod 10. Rotation of the heat exchanger via a motor 2 causes air to be drawn in along the path indicated by the arrow 19, the air flowing radially outwardly across the fin and tube arrangement and into volute ducts 21 whence it is discharged via outlets 22. At one end of the heat exchanger is a dish-shaped structure 3 the interior of which is divided by a partition 4 into two spaces 4a, 4b respectively communicating with the flow and return passages. Hot water entering through a non-rotating inlet hose 8 and spigot and socket joints 5, 13 flows out to the tubes 14 through space 4a and is returned through space 4b to exit via a shaft seal 12, annular space 6 and non-rotating discharge hose 7. Partitioning of the interior of each tube 14 into flow and return passages is effected either by a longitudinally extending partition 15 or by a second tube 25 disposed eccentrically within the tube 14, the partitioning stopping short of the closed end of the tube to provide communication between the flow and return passages.
