Abstract

1410175 Sails and stabilizers B WAINWRIGHT 6 Dec 1972 [18 Dec 1971] 58893/71 Headings B7V and B7M An aerofoil or hydrofoil comprises a central panel 10 and two like lateral panels 12 hingedly connected one at each side thereof, the central panel being rotatable about a central longitudinal axis 16. The lateral panels are of similar cross-section and the central panel is of symmetrical cross-section about a median plane passing through the central axis. The crosssections of the panels are such that either one of the lateral panels can be folded inwardly to lie against the central panel or the other lateral panel or both. The combined panels then form a non-symmetrical aerofoil or hydrofoil in crosssection, the mirror-image of which can. be produced by alternatively folding in the others of the lateral panels.
