Abstract
1410028 Electrolytic treatment of fibre or filament bundles MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AG 12 Oct 1972 [16 Oct 1971] 47213/72 Heading C7B A conductive sliver 2 of filaments twisted together e.g. of carbon fibres is electrolytically treated, e.g. plated (as shown), with Cu or Ni, etched or scavenged, by drawing it, e.g. from wind-off reel 1 to take-up reel 5, via roller 4, connected as a cathode through a turbulence chamber 3 supplied with one or more jets of electrolyte issuing into the chamber through one or more nozzles e.g. in an annular non-conductive supply chamber 6, the or each jet having a sinusoidal form relative to the axial direction of the sliver, to separate the filaments from each other whereby electrolyte, to which an electrical potential is applied via an anode 7 within the chamber, contacts all the filaments as the sliver passes. Electrolyte E may be pumped from a supply container 12 via line 10 to an inlet of the chamber 6. Preferably the annular chamber 6 has an inner wall comprising a sleeve provided with the nozzle outlet; the anode is also annular and located coaxially within.
