Abstract

1409769 Acetylated starch phosphates SLIMCEA Ltd 1 Feb 1974 [8 Feb 1973] 6281/73 Heading C3U A process for the production of an acetylated di-starch phosphate which comprises forming a slurry of a cereal starch or a mixture of a cereal starch and a root starch having an average amylose content of 15-26% by weight, treating the slurry with a soluble metaphosphate or polymetaphosphate salt to form a di-starch phosphate ester at a pH of at least 9 and then acetylating the di-starch phosphate so formed by reaction with an acetylating agent at a pH of at least 8 and then reducing the pH to below 6.0 by the addition of acid and separating the suspended acetylated di-starch phosphate so formed. The aqueous slurry is preferably formed in the presence of NaCl and NaOH in water, phosphated with sodium trimetaphosphate, sodium metaphosphate or sodium hexametaphosphate and acetylated with acetic anhydride.
