Abstract

1408828 Electro-photographic element TURLABOR AG 6 April 1973 [7 April 1972] 16532/73 Heading G2C An electro-photographic element comprises an organic photo-conductive layer covered by a transparent protective layer resistant to gas discharges, the saturation voltage of the protective layer being equal to or less than the saturation voltage of the photo-conductive layer. The protective layer is preferably 0.1 to 1Á thick and may be polytetrafluoroethylene, epoxy resin, a polymer of triethoxy methyl silane and octamethyl cyclotetrasiloxane, a polysiloxane, a polyimide, a hydrophobic metal salt of a fatty acid e.g. Zn stearate, SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , SiO, TiO 2 , a silicate, a glass, a boride or a nitride. More than one protective layer may be provided. The protective layer may be deposited by evaporation, precipitation, surface polymerization, glow discharge polymerization, spraying or coating with subsequent cross-linking. The photoconductive layer may comprise polyvinyl carbazole optionally brominated, tetranitrofluorenone, and acrylic resin. An intermediate layer of a silicone or epoxy resin may be provided between the protective layer and the photo-conductive layer. The photo-conductive layer may be formed on an aluminium plate.
