1408389 Immersion heaters RUSSELL HOBBS Ltd 11 Sept 1972 42156/72 Heading H5H An immersion heater is secured in an aperture or apertures 15 of a container 14 by the provision of a mounting plate 18 secured to the element sheath 17, e.g. by brazing, a deformable annular seal 24, e.g. a rubber grommet, for each aperture 15, which bears against the inside of the container, a nut(s) 23 secured on the end(s) of the element and arranged to compress the seal(s) 24 between the plate 18 and the container 14 and stop means co-operating with the nut(s) 23 to limit the approach of the nut(s) 23 to the mounting plate 18 and thus prevent plastic deformation of the sealing member(s) 24. As shown, the stop means comprise for each aperture 15 a cylindrical portion 18<SP>1</SP> pushed out of the plate 18 to extend into aperture 15 and co-operate with a cylindrical portion 18a<SP>1</SP> of metal plate 18a on the outside of the container. An earthing plate 22 mounted on metal plate 18a is engaged by the nut(s) 23. The stop means may be in the form of a cylinder extending through an aperture 15 between nut 23 and plate 18. The arrangement may be used for mounting the head of a heating element in a single aperture, the nut being mounted on the outer end of the head.
