Abstract

1408149 Control systems for welding apparatus ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 13 Dec 1972 [14 Dec 1971] 57530/72 Heading H2H An igniter for an arrangement for thermal treatment of workpieces, such as an arc-welding process, comprises a source of current 10 connected between electrode 12 and workpiece 11, between which a main arc may be struck, and a D.C. voltage system 14, which may be provided from a three-phase supply by bridge rectifier 26 and transformer 25, to supply an ignition arc between electrode 12 and igniter electrode 13, the ignition arc being ignited by a high frequency ignition system 15. Choke 39 and capacitor 40 provide a low pass filter to protect the rectifier arrangement from the high frequency ignition system 15, the choke coil being shunted by relay contact 41 when the h.f. system is inoperative. Current limiting resistor 35 in the ignition arc supply circuit is shunted by potentiometer 36 which is used to operate a relay 37 used for control purposes. Two or more current sources 10 and associated electrodes 12 and 13 may be provided for use with a plurality of workpieces, each workpiece system being isolated by a diode (Fig. 2, not shown).
