Abstract

1408070 Reversal processing to produce metal images PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N V 3 Sept 1973 [6 Sept 1972] 41369/73 Heading G2C Reversed metal images are produced by (i) imagewise exposing a benzene diazosulphide of formula [Add Formula I] on a support, (ii) contacting the exposed material in the presence of moisture with mercurous and optionally silver ions to form a latent image, (iii) optionally physically developing the latent image, (iv) bleaching the latent or visible metal image with an oxidant before or after uniform exposure and (v) repeating steps (ii) and (iii) to produce a reversed metal image. The bleach may be potassium bichromate/sulphuric acid or sodium hydrogen sulphate, potassium ferricyanide/sodium thiosulphate, ceric, sulphate/ nitric acid or ceric sulphate/potassium dichromate/ nitric acid/sulphuric acid. After uniform exposure and bleaching, the material may be treated with an alkaline solution (e.g. pyridine) and optionally with an acid solution.
