Abstract

1406851 A coupling for tubular scaffolding J M ZAIDAN 17 Aug 1972 [1 July 1972] 38347/72 Heading E2B A coupling for tubular scaffolding comprises a central link 3 having two pairs of arms 6, 7 and 8, 9 which project in opposite directions from a connecting position and have apertures 10, 11 or 13, 12 therein, and a pair of wedges 15, 16, the former being received by the apertures 13, 12 in the arms 8, 9 respectively and the latter being received by the apertures 10, 11 in the arms 6, 7 respectively. In use a tubular scaffolding 1 is positioned within the arms 8, 9 and a tubular scaffolding 2 is positioned within the arms 6, 7. Clamping is effected by the respective wedge 15 or 16 being hammered into apertures 13, 12 or 10, 11 so that the scaffolding 1 or 2 abuts the connecting part of the central link 3. The narrower end of each wedge 15 or 16 is provided with a tongue 17 or 18 to prevent the escape of the wedges from the coupling. Each pair of arms has a portion which is flared outwardly to facilitate the entry of the tubular scaffolding therebetween. The coupling may be made of mild steel sheet.
