Abstract

981,681. Clamp fastenings. BOULTON SCAFFOLDING. March 1, 1961 [Dec. 1, 1959], No. 40747/59. Heading E2B. [Also in Division B3] In a method of making a body component of a swivel coupling, opposed corner portions of a rectangular plate are bent up on one side of the plate to form an alignedpairof U-shaped arms so that a clamping strap and a bolt may be pivoted to and between the arms. A metal blank having a hole 9 pierced in each corner and a centre hole 10 is formed into a body 2 by bending up the corners and edges to form two U-shaped arms 6, 7. The head 14 of a T-bolt 13 and the T-end 11 of a strap 12 are retained and pivoted in the holes 9 during bending. The strap formed from a metal blank comprises a T-portion 11, a portion 12b of U-cross section and a slot 12c adapted to receive the T-bolt 13. To form a complete swivel coupling two body component assemblies are pivoted and riveted together by a tubular headed rivet 15 passing through the holes 10, Fig. 3. In a modification the T-bolts 13 may be replaced by eye bolts and pins and the hollow rivet 15 by a tubular spigot formed from the base of one of the body components.
