998,155. Stud and socket fastenings. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. June 21, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 33917/62. Heading E2B. A sheet metal fastener device for securing apertured members c, d to one another comprises a shank 2 projecting from a head 1, the shank including two laterally spaced legs having first leg portions 4, 5 each integrally connected with the head at one end and formed with flat faces disposed in a common plane and second leg portions 4a, 5a resiliently connected to the other ends of the first leg portions and extending in overlapping spaced relation thereto and formed with flat faces disposed in a common plane, the second leg portions including inner portions disposed in parallel relation and free end portions 4b, 5b inclined laterally outwards away from one another and terminating in end faces 4c, 5c disposed in spaced relation to the head, the shank being insertable through aligned apertures in the members to be secured, the inclined free end portions of the second leg portions being adapted to flex inwardly during said insertion and thereafter being adapted to revert to their original positions. In the construction shown the end faces 4c, 5c engage the interior face of the member d which is tubular. The two members to be secured can however be flat panels if desired. The head 1 is covered by a cap 6.
