1405808 Needle threader NECCHI SpA 26 June 1973 [27 June 1972] 30205/73 Heading DIG In a sewing machine having a cover plate 25 enclosing the head 10 of the machine a needle threading device comprises an elongate plate 30 supporting a threading hook 38 and mounted adjacent an internal surface of the cover plate to be displaceable therealong substantially parallel to the direction of reciprocation of the needle 41 and pendulously displaceable in a first place perpendicular to that surface to bring the hook 38 into alignment with the needle eye and further pendulously displaceable in a second plane to cause the hook to perform a threading movement. The plate.30 has a slot. (31 Fig. 2 not shown) embracing a pin 28 attached to the surface and surrounded by a spring 32 urging the plate against the surface. The upper end of the plate 30 is inclined at 43; the lower end presents a vertical web 33 slidably engaging a slot in the cover plate 25, a horizontal web 34, the hook 38 and resilient needle centring arms 39, 40. In use the operator's finger depresses web 34, the plate 30 sliding past pin 28 until the inclined portion 43 causes the plate to swing to align the hook with the needle eye, a projecting element 44, 45 then abutting the top of the needle bar to maintain the alignment irrespective of the lateral position of the needle bar (Figs. 4 and 5 not shown). The operator then swings the plate and hook forward to enter the needle eye.
