Abstract
140,541. Shankland, J. R., (trading as Shankland & Co.), and Shankland, D. Jan. 21, 1919. Pneumatically-operated fastenings.-A device for locking or unlocking a series of railwaycarriage doors pneumatically comprises a series of door bolts 5 operatively connected, as by bellcranks 5<a>, to a rod 3 actuated in opposite directions for locking and unlocking respectively by the pistons 2 of separate pneumatic cylinders 1, or separate sets of cylinders, the arrangement being such that when, by operation of the two-way cock or cocks 8, compressed air is admitted from the reservoir 7 to one cylinder or set of cylinders, the other cylinder or set of cylinders is exhausted. An electric switch, such as 10, Fig. 3, may be arranged adjacent each bolt, and be adapted, when the bolt is shot, to close an electric circuit including a lamp 11 visible to the guard. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 9953/13.
