14,662. Thompson, W. June 18. Pneumatically operated fastenings.-A fastening for railway-carriage doors &c. comprises a casing a in which works a piston f attached to the bolt h. The bolt h is shot by air pressure supplied through the connexion e, and is retracted by the spring j. Its motion is limited by the stem l coming in contact with the screw plug d which closes the cylinder. A packing i compressed by a gland in the base of the casing makes an air-tight joint. According to a modification, the piston may be operated by a vacuum through the connexion x shown in dotted lines. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 12,286/10 and 8772/12.
