Abstract

1404419 Yarn cores E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 15 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 47983/73 Heading B8M A laminated yarn core, particularly adhesively bonded paper, comprises a circumferential string up groove 12 in its outer surface located adjacent an end, and a circumferential inner groove 13 in its inner surface located axially inwardly of the stringup groove 12, the grooves 12, 13 being of such a depth to cut one common bond line 24 between the layers 22 of the core. In use the initial end of the winding is engaged in groove 12 which preferably includes a narrow portion and a wide portion. When it is required to use the yarn on the core the end of the core adjacent the grooves is removed, by virtue of the severed bond line 24, and the end of the yarn is thereby freed. The end of the core preferably includes a hole 18 for the reception of a tool to remove the core end. In a preferred embodiment, the core has an inner diameter of 2 inches and an axial distance between the grooves of from 0À03 inches to 0À25 inches.
